Herbalife is a California-headquartered company that, according to its website, sells nutrition, weight-management and personal-care products through a network of approximately 1.9 million distributors in 70 countries. The company's products range from shake mixes to supplements and skin-care lotions.

    Herbalife's weight-loss plan is called ShapeWorks. It replaces two meals a day with shakes. To lose weight on the Herbalife plan, you need to buy the shake mix, protein powder and herbal tea concentrate.

    Herbalife encourages you to buy its multivitamin and cell activator. These vitamins are taken three times a day. The company says the Cell Activator helps to boost the absorption of the multivitamin. Another product called Total Control boosts metabolism, helps with energy and soothes digestion. It includes green tea and other herbs. Total Control should be taken three times a day with breakfast, lunch and a mid-afternoon snack. A product called Snack Defense can be taken any time. It doesn't include caffeine and is supposed to help stabilize blood sugar. Another supplement designed to help with weight loss is Thermo-Bond. It is designed to help you feel full.

Labels

    Read nutrition facts for sodium content per serving in processed items. Canned foods like soups, bouillons, tomatoes, sauces and beans can include several servings in one can; multiply the sodium content by the number of servings to get the actual amount of sodium in one can. Apply the same strategy to calculate sodium from other processed foods like frozen and packaged meals and packaged snacks. Foods marked low sodium or reduced sodium may still contain a significant amount of sodium if the serving size does not equal to the entire can, meal or package size. Reduce the amount of sodium in processed products by rinsing the contents when possible.

Food

The Best Diet for Working Night Shifts

Working through the dead of night can wreak havoc on a person's diet. Many who work the night shift, also known as the "graveyard" shift, are thrown off of regular eating schedules because they no longer eat with family or friends where meals and mealtimes are fairly well-established. Snacks and fatty foods tend to become staples in the lives of night-shift workers, and these can lead to quick weight gain and the degradation of overall health.

Establish Eating Times

    One important key for maintaining proper nutritional health while working graveyard shifts is to establish regular mealtimes. For example, eating "breakfast" within one hour of waking up (even if this means breakfast is eaten at 6 p.m. or even later) is a good way to jump-start energy levels for the long night ahead (see References 1). Also schedule regular times for lunch and dinner, and eat the foods traditionally associated with each meal, even if it means eating pancakes during everyone else's dinner time and a pork chop during their normal breakfast time. This will help you and your body recognize each separate meal for what it should be and provide an easier dietary transition to nighttime eating.

Avoid Energy-Loading

    Don't load up on caffeine, carbohydrates, or other foods traditionally known to provide quick bursts of energy before a night shift. Many believe this will help keep them awake during a late shift, but it instead provides just a small and short-lived supply of energy that leads to a major crash afterward (see References 2). This can, in turn, lead to unhealthy snacking to re-boost energy levels, adding empty calories and unnecessary fat consumption.

Snack Healthy

    Small and healthy snacks between meals can help maintain proper energy levels through the night as long as these snacks are nutritious and of modest size. This will also help reduce the need for huge meals during established mealtimes. Large meals tend to make a person feel sleepy.

3-Day Cleanse Ingredients

    Gather the following ingredients for this 3-day cleansing regimen:

    100 percent whole leaf aloe vera juice
    Prune juice (not from concentrate)
    Apple juice (not from concentrate)
    Fresh lemons
    Flax seed oil

    Distilled water

Procedure

    Post dental surgery can be a painful time alleviated slightly by a soft diet. There's nothing better than a bowl of hot soup. Prepare a clear broth chicken soup which can be used as a base for many other types of soups. Strain the soup so there are no vegetables, chicken, nothing but clear broth (in fact, when I'm making a clear broth, I bundle up all of the solid parts, including the whole chicken, in cheesecloth so I can easily lift the whole thing out). Place the soup in the refrigerator and, once congealed, skim the top of the fat. Add rice or very small, thin egg noodles, or saltine crackers (which will soften to mush) to mix it up a bit. You can scramble an egg in a bowl and swirl it into the soup to make egg drop soup which adds in additional protein.

    Make different types of soups from your basic chicken soup - such as potato soup or cheese soup. I always hop on foodnetwork.com to get other ideas. Make sure that the person with the affected mouth will eat the types of soup you're cooking up. Also, it's great to make enough to freeze. My chinese friend, Sophia, makes a Congee soup which is basically rice cooked in A LOT of water. She'll throw in some small pieces of ginger or hamburger meat to add protein for my mother.

    Stock up on ice cream, sorbets, pudding, jellos. Yogurt is not always recommended as it contains live yeast cultures that can affect healing - check with the doctor before you serve this to your patient.

    You can easily mix up a crustless cheese cake to add some additional calories to the diet. Cakes are also easy to whip up and satisfying too. Freeze 1/2 of the cake for later consumption.

    Also, when we were younger (and before the advent of processed baby food), my parents would put anything they were eating for a meal in a blender and add a little liquid. It might not be totally appealing to suck beef stew through a straw, but it can be done. Scrambled eggs are always easy as is egg salad with the egg chopped very fine. Mashed potatoes with some cheese are always good also.
